A design team can tend to silo themselves from the rest of the organization, so It's essential to be transparent about the design process. Educate your product team in the value of design and advocate for it across your organization.
It's essential to keep in mind that eventhough we are making users lives better with design, we need to make sure our colleagues are getting the same treatment. It's good to ask where design could help out within your organization beyond the product.
Set your team up for success, personally and in a way that impacts the business by connecting the dots across the organization, designing careers for your team and mentor others to lead.
“Mike is the best interaction designer I have worked with. He is thoughtful and clear, taking into account many factors at each turn. He is able to take large, complex systems and create user-centered solutions that unify and elevate the experience. Mike also has developed into a strong leader, aligning teams on a common goal, and is very detail-oriented, driving high-quality deliverables. He has the ability to see the end state and drive the team each day to achieve it. Mike is a pleasure to work with and will jump at the chance to do so again.”

"Of all the designers I've worked with, Michael stands out as being one of my favorite people to work with. During our time at Rocket Mobile, we collaborated on lots of projects as a design/dev duo. One, in particular, Chiron Health, was designed so well that most of Michael's designs were still in use when the company was acquired 5 years later. Michael has a great mind for bringing order to complicated systems and coming up with time-tested solutions to problems."
— James Hafner | Design Leader / Director of User Experience @ Indeed
"Michael is what we call a "unicorn" in the design community. Someone of his ability is truly hard to fine. He can go from ideation with a cross-functional team through the UX design process into front-end development. Michael was hired into work on our flagship product mid-way through the project, but he had no problem jumping right in. He quickly became the leader I relied on to make sure the project was on track. He worked closely with the other designers and developers on the project to create style-guides and ensure the UX/design was not lost. Michael will make a great addition to any team he joins, I hope to work with him again in the future."
